It isn't my fault... It's yours

I'm not an advocate of how some countries follow the rule of guilty unless proven innocent, but for once I believe that it might be the only way to create the much needed fear in the minds of men who think just because they can get away with it, rape is no big deal.

My sister and I have been brought up in a house where we were told right from wrong but never told how if something like this happened it was our fault. Our dad is strong enough to have told us how to deal with it and our mum has the EQ most parents today need. We are two strong women thanks to our parents.

But that's just us. While growing up and even today (I'm a mother of one) my parents still tell me it's not me that they don't have faith in but it's the people around and I now know what they mean.

In a country which has seen a male centric setup in the society, the man can do no wrong. It's a way for a man to feel superior. "I raped her, so what is she going to do about it?" That is exactly how he thinks. No fear of law, no remorse for his wrong doing because in his eyes, he has done no wrong.

What is the best way to deal with this? This sickness in our society that refuses to be cured by any means tried so far.

I think it's time for a change in laws. I think it's time that the legislature realised you can't really cure them when we have a week law. We need stricter regulations than a couple of years in jail. Something more cruel (if I may use the word).
A law that acts as a deterrent rather than look like an after thought.
